Clean-up Mumbai

'Kachara mat pheko varna....'
Jurmana Rs. 200

You see these huge hoardings put up across the city nowadays. Its true we all know that our drains are getting clogged by all the filth that we produce . We also know how important urgent action is in this regard. Well, so we do have a 'purpose' clear in our heads. Great!! But its the 'implementation' of the whole 'drive' that troubles one. I mean, I've never seen a BMC mama fine someone 200 bucks for littering around . Neither have you guys, I bet. But if the rule has been brought in order then there must be measures taken to see to it that people abide by it. The ban on plastics for example is mocked at each time a kirana store gives a thaili to you. And its the authority of the court that is being mocked at. Without the 'enforcing-of-the-law' bit , the campaign is nothing but a fake warning , very similar to moms telling their kids 'Doodh peelo varna ... bhootuncle aa jaayenge'
If the BMC is really concerned about the cleanliness of this city, then certain things like these need to be looked after immediately.
Anyways the monsoons are coming. And so, I'm sure are overflowing drains... The BMC is sure to get a rude awakening;
Cleanup Karo Varna....

  1. Just a few questions I'd like the blogger to answer:
    1. Has he taken a poll/survey,roamed around the city to look what REALLY is hppning in Mumbai b4 commenting on this inaction of the BMC?
    2.Does he know that the'CLEAN UP Mumbai' intiative taken up by the BMC is actually a public awareness drive to actually empower the citizens to help bring a change?
    3. Are you people aware of the impact this drive has done on the mumbai streets?(I bet,if u get up a little earlier than 11am,u're sure to see those men in orange and those green trucks plying on the road besides ur house)
    4.Do you possess or have atleast heard of Clean-up cards issued to citizens to help them make the city better?
    If you try to gain the answers for these questions,I'm sure there will a new and different posts coming up in this blog....[:-)]
    P.S. I'm not saying BMC is doing a gr8 job(ders scope for improvement,lots of improvement!),But atleast they ARE striving hard and they r doin fairly well,atleast in most parts of the city...

  2. Hmmm... Well you've really got a point there.
    Its certainly a much needed initiative. And the fact that they are using such innovative ways surely indicates that the 'drive' has got potential.
    But all I say if its really a public awareness initiative , then why the penalise thing? If its actually a rule , then no one's following it (and no one's making sure people do)And if its not a rule then the BMC should stop using 40 by 40 billboards to lie.
